Blog Post #2 Response to A Modest Proposal

The Modest Proposal by Johnathan Swift was written in the early 1700's. The most of the essay is written in a sarcastic tone. Swift mocks the ideas and solutions of his time. Swift's plan would help deal with the population, poor, and social issues in Ireland in the early 18th century. Swift highlights the growing population problem. With the steady increase of working class people less and less jobs were available. In Swifts essay, he proposes to sell children at the age of one year to the rich of Ireland as a delicacy of sorts. To build his case and his sarcasm he describe several different methods of cooking and preparing the babies. Swifts purpose is to show how badly Ireland was in need of some real ideas and help. I got the Message and really enjoyed reading this.
